Wright Flyer Replica
This replica of the Wright Brothers 1903 Flyer was built by students from the Chapin School with assistance from Mr. Jim DeBlois and Mr. John P. Immordino. This replica is a full size re-creation of the history making craft designed and flown by the Wright Brothers in 1903.
The Wright Flyer (often retrospectively referred to as Flyer I or 1903 Flyer) was the first successful heavier-than-air powered aircraft. Designed and built by the Wright brothers, they flew it four times on December 17, 1903, near Kill Devil Hills, about four miles south of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The aircraft is “the first powered, heavier-than-air machine to achieve controlled, sustained flight with a pilot aboard.”The flight of the Wright Flyer marks the beginning of the “pioneer era” of aviation.
